The owner of Kelvercrest, Vera Potiker, believes in "giving back" to the clubs that have contributed so much to her success with her dogs. She has done this by serving as an officer and on various committees for the American Miniature Schnauzer Club, the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California, the Orange Empire Dog Club, and the Great Western Terrier Association.
The following is a brief history of Kelvercrest:

Vera Kelly Potiker began a breeding program in the late 1960's with a Das Hundlein bitch bred to Fran Cazier's CH Orbit's A-OK of Adford. During the early '70s, Vera interbred with Hansenhaus dogs as well as some from Mio's Kennel in West Los Angeles while honing the crafts of grooming and handling. She shared the CH Fairfield flyer of Hansenahaus daughter, CH B-Majer Bolero V Kelvercrest, with Peggie Blakley (B-Majer). "Bolero" was intensely Hansenhaus-bred with her dam, B-Majer Mazurka by CH Playboy's Block Buster out of a Block Buster granddaughter.

Bolero gave them five champions, four by CH Regency's Right on Target, and one by CH Petty's Warlock of Hansenhaus. Vera owned the first pair of Target get that were shown in the summer of 1982. Vera handled her male, Kelvercrest Devilwind to Best of Breed from the classes; Peggie showed the dog in Group since the littermate, Kelvercrest Wind Dance, had won Winners Bitch. The other pair of Target get were owned by Peggie with the B-Majer prefix and included the top-producing sire, CH B-Majer King of Swing.

In the 1980's Vera decided to investigate the color varieties. She purchased and quickly finished a black and silver bitch, CH Repitition's Loverly. Bred to the B/S CH Margot's Little Jimmy Dickens, she gave Vera a pair of B/S champion sons. She was also bred to the black stud dog CH Carmel Nite Flight, which produced one of Vera's favorites, a black called "Lyle" - CH Kelvercrest Midnight Caller.

It was Kelvercrest breedings with Sole Baye that brought Vera's kennel into the limelight. Her top-winning and best-producing sire, "Mikey" - CH Kelvercrest Country Squire, was by CH Sole Baye's TJ Esquire out of Kelvercrest Obsession. Mikey went on to produce seven champions for Vera. Her best-producing bitch, CH Kelvercrest By Design, was a daughter of the "TJ" son, CH Allaruth's Charles V Sole Baye. By Design produced five champions, and is the granddam of CH Kelvercrest Christmas Gift, who also produced three champions.

One of Vera's most joyful experiences has to be her "team" effort at the 1997 Great Western Terrier Association weekend. There Vera commandeered FOUR Kelvercrest Champions [Country Squire, Starlight, Designer Genes, and Top Design) to win Best Team at the AMSC Specialty! Designer Genes and Top Design won Best Brace the following day - handled by Vera.

Clearly the "star" of the Kelvercrest breeding program has been Country Squire. Please read much more about Mikey on his own page.

In 1988, Mikey and Top Design produced a male that did very well - including winning BOB at Westminster. See more on CH Kelvercrest Country Singer ("Travis") on his page. While Travis was making his mark, Vera bred Mikey to Designer Genes. One of the results was CH Kelvercrest Benchmark, who ranked in the Top Twenty for three years.

In more recent years, black came back to Kelvercrest when Vera acquired CH Carmel Hershey's Hugs N Kisses. XXXXX

Her current "Special" - CH Carmel Race to Kelvercrest ("Trace") is making his mark in the top ranks of the breed during 2007. He was breed winner of the MSCSC Specialty at Great Western in June, and BOB at Hatboro #1 during Montgomery County weekend.
